Whether you’re completing a garden wall, adding detail to entrance pillars or creating a smart finish around a gateway, the right pier caps help bring everything together.
Our Raj Sawn Indian sandstone pier caps combine the natural beauty of Raj Green sandstone with a cleaner, more contemporary finish. Each pier cap is crafted from natural Indian sandstone, featuring a beautiful blend of soft sage greens, warm browns and subtle grey tones. These natural colour variations create a timeless appearance that works well across a range of garden styles, from traditional landscapes to more modern outdoor spaces.
The sawn finish gives each pier cap crisp edges and a smooth, refined surface, creating a neater look compared to more textured finishes. This makes them an excellent choice if you’re looking to add a polished finishing touch while still keeping the character and individuality of natural stone.
Designed to complement our Raj Sawn sandstone paving, copings and other landscaping products, these pier caps help create a consistent look throughout your outdoor space. Whether you’re matching existing Raj Green stonework or starting a brand-new garden project, they provide the perfect finishing detail for walls, pillars and entrance features.
Our Raj Sawn Sandstone Pier Caps are available in a range of sizes, making them suitable for different wall widths, pillar designs and landscaping requirements.
Choosing the right Raj Sawn Indian sandstone pier caps
Choosing the right size pier cap is an important part of achieving the finish you want. Before ordering, we recommend measuring your wall or pillar carefully to ensure your chosen size provides the right coverage and proportions.
Some customers prefer their pier caps to extend slightly beyond the wall edges, creating a more defined profile and a traditional look. Others prefer a flush finish that follows the shape of the structure below for a cleaner, more contemporary appearance. The best choice depends on the style you’re aiming to achieve and how you want the finished feature to look.
Although Raj Sawn Indian sandstone pier caps have a smooth, consistent finish, they are still made of natural stone. This means each piece will have its own subtle differences in colour, texture and markings. These natural variations are part of what makes Indian sandstone so popular, giving every installation its own unique character.

Step-by-Step Guide to Laying a Patio
Creating a beautiful and long-lasting patio requires the right materials and a solid installation process. Follow our step-by-step guide to ensure a professional finish, using high-quality paving slabs, jointing compounds, and essential finishing touches available at Bridge Street Stone.
Step 1: Plan & Prepare the Area
Before starting, decide on the size, shape, and layout of your patio. Mark out the area using string lines or spray paint and ensure there’s a slight gradient for water drainage.
You’ll Need:
✔ Paving slabs – Browse our range of natural stone and porcelain paving
✔ Measuring tape & string line – For accurate planning
✔ Shovel & wheelbarrow – To clear the area
Step 2: Dig Out & Create the Sub-Base
Excavate the area to a depth of 150-200mm to allow for the base layers. Compact a 100mm layer of MOT Type 1 using a wacker plate to create a firm foundation.
You’ll Need:
✔ MOT Type 1 hardcore – Order high-quality sub-base material
✔ Wacker plate or compactor – Essential for a solid foundation
Step 3: Prepare the Bedding Layer
A mortar bed is needed to hold your paving in place. Use a mix of 4 parts sharp sand to 1 part cement, adding water until it reaches a firm, workable consistency. Lay the mortar to a depth of 30-50mm across the area.
You’ll Need:
✔ Sharp sand & cement – Shop high-quality materials
✔ Mixing tools – Cement mixer or bucket and spade
Step 4: Lay the Paving Slabs
Start laying the slabs from one corner, ensuring a consistent joint gap between each. Use a rubber mallet to tap them into place and check levels with a spirit level.
You’ll Need:
✔ Paving slabs – Explore our natural stone and porcelain paving
✔ Rubber mallet & spirit level – For precision placement
Step 5: Joint & Finish the Patio
Once the mortar has set (24-48 hours), fill the joints using a high-quality jointing compound or traditional sand and cement mix. Brush the compound into the joints and lightly spray with water to activate.
You’ll Need:
✔ Jointing compound or grout – Browse our range of easy-to-use paving grouts
✔ Soft brush & hosepipe – To apply and set the compound
Step 6: Add the Finishing Touches
Complete your patio with matching edging stones, decorative aggregates, or stone ornaments to enhance the overall design.
You’ll Need:
✔ Paving edgings & setts – Define your patio with stylish edging
✔ Decorative aggregates & stone ornaments – Browse finishing touches for your garden
Enjoy Your New Patio!
By following these steps and using high-quality materials from Bridge Street Stone, your patio will be both beautiful and long-lasting.

How to Clean & Maintain Indian Sandstone
To keep your Indian Sandstone paving looking its best, regular maintenance is key. Sweep away debris to prevent dirt build-up and clean periodically with a mild soapy water solution or a specialist stone cleaner. Avoid using harsh chemicals or pressure washers at high settings, as they can damage the stone’s surface. For long-term protection, consider applying a breathable sealant to help resist stains and enhance colour retention. Over time, natural weathering will add character, but with proper care, your sandstone will remain a beautiful feature in your outdoor space for years to come.
