Frequently Asked Questions
What are coping stones for? +
In simple terms, they finish the top of a wall properly. Without coping stones, water will sit on the surface and over time work its way into the structure. Coping stones guide water away from the wall and protect the brickwork or blockwork below. An exposed wall top tends to weather more quickly. They also give your wall a decorative, finished look, rather than leaving it flat and exposed.
How do I know what size coping stone to order? +
Start with the exact width of your wall. Most customers choose a coping with a small overhang on either side, which helps with water runoff and helps the wall look more balanced. If you send us the wall width, we can tell you what we recommend. It’s a straightforward decision once the measurements are clear.
Are coping stones necessary on garden walls? +
They aren’t always mandatory, but they are strongly recommended if you want the wall to last and look complete. An exposed wall top tends to weather more quickly. Adding a coping stone protects that vulnerable surface while improving the overall finish of the build.
Will these coping stones work with my existing paving? +
If you’re already using Indian sandstone, for example, keeping the coping in the same material usually makes the most sense. Natural stone will always vary slightly, but staying within the same range keeps the overall project consistent. If you’re unsure, we can guide you to the closest option.
