Sawn Indian Yorkstone Paving

What is Sawn Paving?

Sawn paving is a type of paving stone known for its beautifully smooth finish, which is achieved by cutting the slabs straight off the original block in large, neat sections using diamond-edged saws, rather than being split naturally down their existing fault lines, like riven slabs are.

It’s affordable, durable and long-lasting, and available in a great range of colours and finishes. The result is an Indian stone paving slab that’s beautifully smooth to the touch, and effortlessly stylish in a huge range of settings and environments.

The various different types of sawn paving are all sourced from the same places as their riven counterparts - for example, sawn Indian sandstone is still sourced from quarries in India, and sawn Yorkstone comes from quarries located right here in the UK.

What are the benefits of Sawn Paving?

The wonderfully smooth surface of Sawn Indian Sandstone and Sawn Yorkstone paving makes it a highly sought-after choice for modern and contemporary spaces. In perfect contrast to the raw look and feel of riven sandstone, sawn sandstone is ideal for creating an atmosphere of refined sophistication. Its minimalist, pared-back appearance gives the space room to breathe, allowing the eyes of any visitors to be drawn to statement features or ornaments. On top of all that, it’s famously low maintenance, and available in an array of stunning colours from Golden Leaf to Fossil Mint.

What are the different applications of Sawn Paving?

As we’ve touched on above, sawn paving can be effectively used to give your space an immediately up-to-date, modern feel. It’s a particularly popular choice for outdoor dining spaces, because of the relaxing and sophisticated atmosphere it can create. There are practical advantages to this too - as the stone itself is completely smooth, you won’t have to worry about any of your furniture wobbling unevenly, allowing you and your guests to sit back and relax in total comfort.

Many homeowners also enjoy using sawn Indian sandstone and sawn Yorkstone slabs to create different levels and zones in their garden, as their clean lines offer the perfect way to define different boundaries between these zones. A set of Sawn Indian sandstone steps, for example, can be used to elevate a dining area from the garden path, or simply lead down from the patio to the lawn area. These are just a few ideas to spark some inspiration - you’ve probably got plenty of your own!
